Time for a Review

I officially started keeping a blog the day of my official “last day” at my previous job.  And normally at that job I would meet with my employees at least once a month (sometimes every two weeks if we were in the middle of something).  And I wanted to kind of do a check in or a “review” of myself here.

Of course, check ins were always private and this will not be.

Before I get officially started, I need to think about my KPI’s (key performance indicators) and what those mean for my daily work.  I’m not doing a regular job, and I’m working on several different projects (in typical Marissa fashion).

To give you some more info, I’m going to conduct this review like how I did for my previous employees.

So here goes!

These are the overall goals:

Productivity – this will include anything that I’m working on.  Which can be sewing projects, recording and video editing, updating the website, reading/research, or anything written including blogs, posts, and fiction.

Volunteering – with whom, what did I do, how many hours spent.

Social Gathering/Relax Time – getting out of the house to spend time with family and friends, taking actual breaks like lunches and exercising.

Consistency/Follow-Through – completing daily/weekly goals that are set.

Then here is how to rate them, including scoring so I can give myself an average:

Exceeds 7-10 pts – obviously going above and beyond.

Meets 4-6 pts – doing well, could use some improvement, but satisfactory.

Needs work 1-3 pts – struggling to hit the amount of time on topics and need to focus more.

Come along with me on this ride (you’ve gotten this far) and let’s see how I’ve done!

Just so you know, for the tone I’m writing the actual review in the 2nd person as if I were giving this review to an employee.

Productivity: Exceeds!  10 pts.

The reason for this score is that you’ve been kicking it out of the park.  You published your website in June along with maintaining weekly blog posts.

Your LinkedIn posts have also increased and are done weekly, which is great!  You need to post at least once a week to start getting people to see you.

You’re in the middle of several sewing projects, including making a new dress (50s style), your meditation pillow prototype, making a face pillow, making progress on the face pillow cover.

As for writing, you did get about 3000 words typed up in your fiction story last week, and you’ve been consistent in getting your blog and LinkedIn posts ready for publication every week.  As well as you continue to do your research for all things Nordic.

Feedback: everything is going great, keep up the good work.  However, on the writing front, you should spend more time researching and being prepared while you’re writing so you can be more productive in this area.  3000 words is great, but you should try to increase that threefold by next month.  And save a day to do your video editing.  You have several recordings ready for review and haven’t done that in quite a while.

Volunteering: Exceeds!  10 pts.

You’ve done a great job this month volunteering.  Every week you’ve been cleaning the cat space and making sure they are getting cuddle time as well as some exercise.

Some feedback: you could spend more time playing with them and let others clean.  But for now keep up the good work!

Social Gathering/Relax Time: Meets.  6 pts.

You’re a Meets for this month because you may be taking too many naps during the week.  Granted once or twice a week isn’t going to be a bad thing, you really should try to find something to focus your attention on so you don’t need to take a nap.

However, you did start exercising with strength training this month and that is why you get a higher point score even though you are a Meets in this metric.

You also went out both days in a weekend, which is great, but maybe you over-did it.  Especially since you will be going out again this week.

Getting out to see your sister and your mom and brother is always good and you’ll be at meets as long as you keep that up.

You do a good job of making sure to take breaks from whatever you’re doing.  Whether that’s taking your lunch, getting up and walking if you’ve been sitting for an hour or just stepping away from the computer to rest your eyes for a few minutes is great practice.

Consistency/Follow-Through: Exceeds! 8 pts

You have done a great job consistently meeting all of the daily goals you set for yourself.  Even if you don’t get to them in the day you intend, you do get to them within each week.  That continuously shows your commitment to all of your projects and your willingness to stay on course and not run off to find something more important, or take another nap.

Feedback: While you Exceed in this metric, I only gave you 8 points because you do need to focus more on the writing bit.  You need to find more time or designate another day in addition to Tuesday’s to get your writing in.  All of the things you are doing take time, but you tend to give your sewing projects more attention than your writing.  This will help you gain more consistency and get better at writing.

Overall: Great job so far!  You’ve done well just in the last couple of months.  This really shows your dedication and perseverance.

Total Score: 34 out of 40 possible points.

Let me know what you think of my assessment, dear reader.

While you don’t see any of the things I’m doing yet (outside of the Blog and possibly LinkedIn), I would still like to hear what you have to say!
