I was going to write about something else for this week’s blog post. But then the storm of 7/27/26 happened. Thankfully I was not impacted by any tornadoes. However, my entire area lost power. I still don’t know why. And as of writing this blog on 7/28/26 at 10am my area is still without power. I received a text from Comed that “most of the area” will have power restored by 7/29/26 12pm. That’s two days without power. I’ve never experienced that before since I’ve lived in that area.
Also thankfully, I have a sister who has a big enough house for me and my cats to stay in until I have power.
Something else I’m thankful for is having a laptop, of which I’m typing this blog post on.
All of that to say, this week was to be the week I finally get my YouTube up and running. I have 8 videos that are basically ready to be published. And then my power goes out.
Even writing this blog, I was putting off writing anything and was going to do it on Sunday, but had a migraine. And then Monday with the storm and the power outage put a damper on getting that written.
So here I am, writing my blog at my sisters on my laptop the day before publishing.
Life has unexpected circumstances. And you have to be able to pivot.
I did just talk about this recently in another blog or post about having a chronic illness and the impacts it has on getting work done. And this falls directly in line with that. I’m very fortunate that I have the tools and the space to get some of my work done. But I will have to postpone my YouTube until the power is back on. I do still want to shoot for the end of the month and I anticipate to be able to hit that target (even if it’s 8/1 instead of 7/31).
One good thing coming from this is that I should be able to focus and get some writing in. Which sometimes has been difficult at home because I get distracted with editing videos. I don’t have that problem here as all my content is on my home computer. I could probably access some of it on my laptop but I choose not to.
Other than worrying about my cats, I’ve been relatively ok. Being able to shift as needed when things come up seems to be something I’ve been getting better at. And even though I’m not happy about putting off my YouTube release, I at least know I’ll be able to do it soon.
I hope none of you were impacted like I was, or worse. I know a few areas in Wisconsin were impacted by tornadoes and I hope everyone up there is ok. As well as anyone else who may have been impacted.
How did you weather the storm (if you even had to deal with it)? But I also want to know, how do you handle things under pressure?
